Le Petit Chateau

This summer one of the most popular wedding venues I’ve had the pleasure to deliver wedding cakes to has been Le Petit Chateau.

The venue has an incredible Mediterranean feel – walking in you are transformed into a French paradise. It’s hard to believe that you are still in the middle of the countryside in Otterburn!

Arriving at the venue, for the first time, to set up I was blown away. It has such a quirky feel – definitely a venue to check out if you do want somewhere really different. There is nowhere else like it!  As you enter, the wedding ceremony room is right opposite, it is breathtaking. The beams, chandelier and ornate walls are details that really stand out and the fireplace is simply beautiful especially once decorated with with a florists touch – in this case Vintage Essence. I also love that the chairs have been set up on an angle rather than facing straight forwards – it’s really inviting and provides a better view for those further back.

I set up in the main reception room – there is a lovely detailed table by the fireplace designated for the cake to stand on. I LOVE this! It’s such a great spot for the cake to be displayed – everyone can see it and there’s a great backdrop for photos. It’s not hidden away in a corner, Le Petit Chateau makes a feature of it. Also the fireplace can be decorated with an array of flowers, lighting or ornaments to make even more of a spectacle. Everything in this venue seems to have been thought of and planned right down to a T.Helen and Kevin Wedding Cake Image by Jamie Mac Photography

At Helen and Kevin’s wedding they used the lighting company ‘Coco Luminaire‘ to create an even bigger impact. Their illuminated lights really stand out and the 5ft initials make any venue have a Hollywood Glam touch. Being 5ft 2in I can safely say they are HUGE and look so so impressive.

For Helen and Kevin’s wedding we went for a very chic design to match their theme. They wanted simple clean lines on their cake but also a bit of drama, The Vera Wang ruffles on the bottom in pale pink give such a soft, romantic feel to the cake but also are so striking. The lustre in the scallops at the top of the cake and covering the 3rd tier gave a shimmery glamorous look and the sugar crystal tier finished it off. It was the first wedding cake I’d done to have a sugar crystal tier and I was thrilled with the results – it gave the cake an extra dimension and added texture which really worked with the ruffles. I also loved the little flower edging around the scallops again adding a romantic feel, completing the look. I topped the cake with two whimsical sugarflower roses and little branches of sugar eucalyptus. Whimsical Rose and Eucalyptus

The couple told me at their cake tasting that neither of them are fond of cake but my flavours had blown them away, they chose Traditional Fruit Cake, Spiced Clementine, Lemon and Champagne and Strawberry – something for everyone! I’m glad to report that the cake went down really well and fingers crossed I’ve converted them into cake lovers!

Another wedding at Le Petit Chateau was for Abi and David. They had a watercolour theme in shades of blush pinks, nudes and wine which worked really well at this venue. They combined this with gold which added an elegant touch. The bottom tier of their cake was covered in 24 carat edible gold leaf which added a royal element to the cake. Gold leaf can be expensive and so finicky to apply but the finished result is like no other – the gilded shine reflects perfectly and screams luxury. Abi and David's Gold Leaf, Watercolour and Sugar Flowers Wedding Cake

The middle tier I handpainted, using Sugarflair edible dusts, to create a lovely watercolour effect based on the colours used in Abi and David’s invitations and wedding stationary. Watercolour cakes are proving to be one of my most popular designs – they are so fun, creative and different! The top tier was plain white fondant to contrast against the watercolour and the ‘It was always you’ topper was provided by ‘Here’s To Us‘.

Abi and David's Sugar Flowers

The sugar flower wreath used peonies, traditional roses, whimsical roses, David Austin roses, hydrangeas, berries and eucalyptus leaves. Abi and David opted for a three tier cake incorporating Vanilla and Passion Fruit, Chocolate and Peanut Butter and White Chocolate and Raspberry as their flavours – again such different choices to compliment such a different venue.

Two absolutely beautiful weddings to start off the summer season and two stunning cakes to match. Congratulations to both couples!

A big thank you to Jamie Mac Photography for some of the images used on this blog post.

I will leave you with this dream of a photo to swoon over…
