Cake Jars

cake jars

So, my sister has been going on at me for a while ‘Why don’t you make cake jars?’ and I didn’t really have an answer for her.

When I do wedding cake tastings I normally have lots of cake left over which usually gets eaten by family – here’s where the jars come in.

You use your cake cut offs and layer the jars up with the buttercream to create cake in a jar. You can do this with cake you have made specially too, however, it’s a great way not to waste any you may have left.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Clean and sterilise your jars
  2. Add a layer of sponge to the bottom of the jar
  3. Follow by piping a layer of buttercream on top of the sponge
  4. Depending on what you are making you may wish to add a layer of jam – for example if you are making a Victoria Sponge cake jar
  5. Repeat from step 2 until the jar is full
  6. Eat now or save for later!

Top tip: Don’t add too much buttercream – the jars can be deceiving and although they may look great they will be far too sweet!

These jars look brilliant and are great for eating with friends as a yummy treat!

I will be offering Cake Jars from time to time via my Facebook page so keep an eye out.
